Matt was born in New Orleans, LA and is a former US Army Officer, cancer survivor, and current medical student at Duke University School of Medicine. Matt completed his training at Fort Benning, GA and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC with the 82nd Airborne Division. In late 2015, Matt was diagnosed with cancer. He went through multiple surgeries, radiation, and was later medically retired from the Army. After discharge, he completed a 2-year research internship position at the National Institutes of Health as well as a Master of Physiology from NC State University.

Matt is intensely passionate about helping veterans transition to medicine. He applied in 2018 and was rejected from all medical schools, but was successful during his reapplication and matriculated in 2021. He learned a ton of lessons during his reapplication that he hopes to bring to this organization including MCAT prep, essay writing, mock interviews, and long-term planning.
Matt loves to dance and you can often find him on the dance floor either dancing bachata or playing the congas to the salsa rhythm. His other passions are woodworking, olympic lifting, and anything outdoors. He is immensely grateful to be a part of this group with hopes to improve access to medicine for veterans.
